About the VW EOS Glove Box

Need a replacement VW EOS glove box (passenger dashboard glove compartment)? Part Nests sources OEM used glove box assemblies for Volkswagen EOS applications from 2007 through 2016. The EOS was Volkswagen’s modern hardtop retractable convertible – one of the most technically distinctive VW convertibles ever produced with a unique five-piece retractable hardtop that included an integrated sunroof. Modernized the VW convertible role from the earlier soft-top Cabrio and New Beetle Convertible generations. Each glove box is inspected for latch function, hinge integrity, and cosmetic condition. Call (855) 634-4447 to verify year and interior color before ordering.

Volkswagen EOS Vehicle Context (2007-2016)

  • Production era: 2007-2016 US market, ten-year production run. Volkswagen’s modern hardtop retractable convertible offering during this era
  • Modern hardtop retractable design: The EOS featured a distinctive five-piece retractable hardtop that folded into the trunk area, transforming the vehicle from a coupe to a convertible in about 25 seconds. Included an integrated glass sunroof panel – unique feature that allowed sunroof operation without full convertible operation
  • VW Golf MK5 platform basis: Built on the VW Golf MK5 platform – FWD front-engine transverse architecture. Shared platform elements with Golf MK5, Jetta MK5, Passat B6, Audi A3 second generation, and other VW / Audi group vehicles of the era
  • VW convertible lineage: Replaced the soft-top VW Cabrio (see our related Cabrio engine fuse box listing) and complemented / eventually replaced the New Beetle Convertible (see our related New Beetle ECM listing) in the VW convertible role. Modernized the VW convertible design language with hardtop retractable technology
  • Discontinued 2016: Ended in 2016 in the US and international markets as VW consolidated its lineup around SUVs and electric vehicles. VW no longer produces a convertible model – the EOS is Volkswagen’s last convertible vehicle to date

Retractable Hardtop Technology

  • Five-piece retractable hardtop: The EOS retractable hardtop consists of five interlocking rigid roof panels that fold and stack in the trunk area during convertible operation. Rigid hardtop provides superior weatherproofing, security, and quietness vs traditional soft-top convertibles when closed
  • Integrated sunroof: Unique feature of the EOS hardtop was the integrated glass sunroof panel that allowed sunroof operation without full convertible mode. Gave the EOS three modes: fully closed hardtop, sunroof-open hardtop, and fully open convertible
  • 25-second operation: Hardtop deployment / retraction cycle takes about 25 seconds and can be operated at low vehicle speeds with the appropriate button controls in the interior
  • Complex mechanism: Retractable hardtop mechanism is one of the more complex convertible systems ever produced. Requires specialized service knowledge for repairs. Failure of hardtop mechanism components is a common EOS service issue

Volkswagen EOS Engine Options

  • 2.0L TSI turbocharged I4: VW’s 2.0L TSI turbocharged inline-4 – the primary EOS engine option. About 200 HP. Same TSI engine family also used in the VW Atlas (see our related Atlas ignition coil listing) and Arteon (see our related Arteon airbag clock spring listing) with different tuning
  • 3.2L VR6 (early years): VW’s 3.2L VR6 (Vee Reihenmotor 6-cylinder) narrow-angle V6 introduced in early EOS production years. About 250 HP. Similar VR6 architecture to the 3.6L VR6 used in the VW Atlas. Provided premium engine option for early EOS
  • 2.0L TDI turbo diesel (European market): VW’s 2.0L Turbocharged Direct Injection diesel available in European market EOS configurations. Not offered in the US market
  • Transmissions: Six-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) dual-clutch automatic – VW’s dual-clutch transmission technology that enables quick shifting and improved fuel economy

Glove Box Specifications

  • Type: OEM passenger dashboard glove compartment for VW EOS
  • Function: Passenger-side dashboard storage compartment for documents, vehicle registration, sunglasses, and personal items. Provides secure storage with locking latch mechanism during vehicle operation
  • Construction: Molded plastic glove box housing with integrated hinges (bottom-mounted for downward opening), latch mechanism (typically key-lockable), interior illumination light (activates when glove box is opened), and mounting features for dashboard integration
  • Interior color: Glove box interior surfaces typically match the vehicle interior color (black, beige, gray depending on trim and options). Specify interior color when ordering to ensure appropriate visual match
  • Common failure modes: Latch mechanism failure (glove box does not close or latch properly), hinge failure (glove box droops when opened or falls out completely), illumination bulb failure (glove box interior light does not activate), cosmetic wear and cracking. Symptoms include non-closing glove box, drooping glove box, non-functional interior light

An OEM used passenger dashboard glove compartment for Volkswagen EOS applications from 2007 through 2016. Molded plastic glove box housing with integrated hinges (bottom-mounted for downward opening), latch mechanism (typically key-lockable), interior illumination light (activates when glove box is opened), and mounting features for dashboard integration. Function is passenger-side dashboard storage for documents, vehicle registration, sunglasses, and personal items.

Volkswagen's modern hardtop retractable convertible produced 2007-2016 in the US market. One of the most technically distinctive VW convertibles ever produced with a unique five-piece retractable hardtop that included an integrated sunroof. Built on the VW Golf MK5 platform. Modernized the VW convertible role from the earlier soft-top Cabrio (see our related Cabrio engine fuse box listing) and New Beetle Convertible generations. VW's last convertible model to date.

The EOS retractable hardtop consists of five interlocking rigid roof panels that fold and stack in the trunk area during convertible operation. Rigid hardtop provides superior weatherproofing, security, and quietness vs traditional soft-top convertibles when closed. Included an integrated glass sunroof panel that allowed sunroof operation without full convertible mode. 25-second deployment / retraction cycle. Complex mechanism requiring specialized service knowledge for repairs.

The EOS offered three roof configurations: (1) Fully closed hardtop (traditional coupe mode with weatherproof rigid roof). (2) Sunroof-open hardtop (integrated glass sunroof panel opens while rest of hardtop remains closed - unique feature vs typical convertibles). (3) Fully open convertible (all five hardtop panels stack in trunk, providing open-air motoring). This three-mode flexibility was one of the unique features that distinguished the EOS from other convertibles of the era.

The 2.0L TSI turbocharged I4 (VW's TSI turbocharged inline-4, about 200 HP - primary EOS engine option, same TSI family used in VW Atlas and Arteon with different tuning). The 3.2L VR6 (VW's narrow-angle V6, about 250 HP - early years premium engine option, similar VR6 architecture to the 3.6L VR6 used in VW Atlas). The 2.0L TDI turbo diesel (European market only, not offered in the US). Six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.

DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) is VW's dual-clutch transmission technology. Uses two clutches - one for odd gears and one for even gears - enabling gear pre-selection and rapid shifts. Provides both the efficiency of a manual transmission and the convenience of an automatic. Six-speed DSG in the EOS enables quick shifting appropriate for the sport-oriented convertible. DSG technology used across many VW / Audi group vehicles from the mid-2000s onward.

The EOS ended in 2016 in the US and international markets as VW consolidated its lineup around SUVs and electric vehicles. VW's focus shifted to the Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Tiguan, Taos, and ID.4 electric SUV. VW has not produced a new convertible model since the EOS ended in 2016 - making the EOS Volkswagen's last convertible vehicle to date. The end of the EOS also ended the VW convertible tradition that stretched back through the Cabrio, New Beetle Convertible, Cabriolet, and Beetle Convertible generations.

Latch mechanism failure (glove box does not close or latch properly, often from wear on plastic latch components). Hinge failure (glove box droops when opened or falls out completely, from broken or worn hinge mounts). Illumination bulb failure (glove box interior light does not activate). Cosmetic wear including surface scuffing, plastic cracking, and interior color fading. Symptoms include non-closing glove box, drooping glove box, and non-functional interior illumination.
